11/30/2023 0 Comments Manifold garden falling gifMy initial edit simply cut back and forth between pretty shots and gameplay with ever increasing complexity. Hopefully after seeing this shot, the audience understands the gameplay basics enough to enjoy watching the rest of the trailer without confusion. This quick cut is here simply because the staircase environment is more immediately striking than what you actually see when you open the door which connects to that particular receptacle. The next two cuts are a closeup of the door opening, and another door opening to the infinite staircase environment (which is actually in a completely different level). I did A LOT of takes to get this precise timing and to position the cube nicely centered in frame the sound effects emphasize the cube's insertion. The camera then immediately tilts upward in order to show how the world infinitely repeats above you, and then the camera tilts back down to show the same down below before the cube SLAMS into a receptacle. This seems like an insignificant and obvious thing, but it was essential to show player agency. It was important to pick up the cube and hear the corresponding sound effect because otherwise it might not be clear the cubes are objects you find and manipulate. The opening shot was very important because I wanted it to answer the question: "What do you DO in Manifold Garden?" I started off by picking up a blue cube, and then diving off a platform. My top priority was to show how the player interacts with the game, but I also wanted to retain a sense of awe from the infinite architecture. When I received a build of the game I played it from beginning to end to take an inventory of the puzzle varieties and environments. Then on top of that, there was the color differences at the end.As beautiful as the announcement trailer is, there's no gameplay, so that was the goal for this release trailer. After completing all of the puzzles in one of the pillar/spokes, I would end up kind of forgetting a lot of specifics about what I had seen in the external areas. The biggest aspect for me was just the distance between a lot of the puzzles in that area. What made me think that this was NOT originally intended solution, was that aspect that getting both myself and the red block onto the correct platform took some more precise and quick falling movement that I hadn’t had to ever use before that point.Īs to what could make that area clearer? I’m not certain I know what could help the most to make things clearer. In the end I ended up running and falling all over that area and then realized that there was a red block I could remove that activated the previous giant falling blocks ‘power/energy’ connection and then it was just a matter of some slight-creative falling until I reached the final red pillar and then used the red block to power the red pillar’s beam. I kept on thinking that I was missing a vital final puzzle that could utilize the normal yellow blocks in the vicinity of the Anti-Yellow tree. The second encounter was much easier for me to parse! I still don’t know if my final puzzle solution for that area was the ‘intended’ one? I think the biggest block I had was the last area felt like there were multiple elements that I never utilized and ended up sort of red herring’d myself.īasically what ended up confusing me the most was thinking I was missing something significant in the final long building with the Anti-Yellow Tree and the final tesseract cube below. To be clear I was in the first area that you experience that puzzle element. I finally got passed that section pretty shortly after I wrote this actually! I hadn’t checked reddit in awhile so I’m glad I saw your message!
